PsychArmor Institute (PsychArmor) provides free education and support to help build understanding between the military and civilian worlds. By providing education about military culture and life, PsychArmor aims to alleviate many of the challenges faced by active duty service members and veterans. PsychArmor’s self-paced courses are delivered within nine topic areas geared toward military culture, healthcare providers, K-12 educators, higher education, volunteers, caregivers and families, transitioning service members and communities serving Veterans. These courses serve as critical resources for all Americans who work with, live with and care about Veterans.

PsychArmor turned to Orr Group when their founder and CEO announced their departure after five years of successfully cultivating strong donor relationships and growing PsychArmor’s revenue significantly. With an active national search for the new CEO ongoing, PsychArmor found itself at a fundraising crossroads. PsychArmor asked Orr Group to assess its current fundraising strategy and operations in order to equip the new CEO and development staff with a road map that would sustain the departing CEO’s work to date and increase and diversify philanthropic revenue over the next one to two years.

Over a three-month period, Orr Group employed a three-pronged approach to assess PsychArmor’s fundraising operation and environment. Orr Group reviewed internal documents, researched and interviewed peer organizations, and conducted stakeholder interviews with staff, board members, donors and prospects to gather varying perspectives on PsychArmor’s fundraising to date.

The project concluded with Orr Group delivering a comprehensive fundraising road map to the new CEO and development staff. The road map detailed key findings and specific and actionable recommendations for PsychArmor to bolster its case for support, recruit and engage leadership, expand its prospect pool, continue cultivating and stewarding major donors, upgrade its fundraising database and restructure the development department. With this fundraising road map in hand, the new CEO and development team are now implementing the recommendations to increase and diversify PsychArmor’s revenue in the near-term.

Orr Group partnered with PsychArmor to assess its current state and develop a strategy to increase and diversify philanthropic revenue while sustaining the momentum of the department as the organization searched for a new CEO.
