Nonprofit Development Careers at Orr Group
At Orr Group, we take our work very seriously. Most of our team will admit that working at Orr Group in nonprofit fundraising and development is the most challenging job they’ve had. The hours can be long. The work is often complex and requires a high level of intellectual engagement. The pressure to meet deadlines while maintaining high standards is unrelenting.
But the same people will also say that working at Orr Group is unequivocally the most rewarding work they’ve done. Our co-workers are like family. An entrepreneurial spirit informs how we operate and interact with our clients. Our nonprofit partners are changing the world, and we love being a part of advancing their vitally important missions.
Additionally, we believe a diverse team brings a wider range of personal and professional experiences and perspectives, and we recognize that diversity and inclusion benefit our agency, our clients, and the communities in which we work and live. To that end, we strongly encourage applications from women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ community, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.

Orr Group hires smart, dedicated, mission-driven and business-minded people. We operate in teams, relying heavily on collaboration, connectivity and an understanding of how to manage nonprofit campaign fundraising and development up and down. Our teams are made up of passionate, vibrant, and motivated professionals—we produce great work, and we care very deeply about our clients and our colleagues.
If this sounds like you, we encourage you to apply! We’re always on the lookout for great talent, and welcome anyone with the following skill-sets, or interested in the positions listed above, to reach out by email.
Our Directors typically lead and drive team work strategies, manage day-to-day client account operations, and serve as the principal liaison with our client partners. They generally have ten to fifteen years’ professional experience in the nonprofit sector, with at least five of those years having been spent successfully soliciting six-to-nine-figure gifts from individual, major, corporate and foundation donors. They will have three or more years’ direct experience creating donor and nonprofit development department strategy, and be well-versed in fundraising and nonprofit management best practices.
While individual client needs vary, it is likely that a Director will spend several days a week onsite at clients’ offices, with the balance in Orr Group’s office. In addition to client team leadership, Directors are expected to be actively involved in leading, training and mentoring staff within Orr Group.
Our Associates participate in the creation, management, and implementation of effective fundraising capacity-building plans for our nonprofit clients. Associates generally have a minimum of one to three years’ experience in development or nonprofit marketing, are self-starters with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and are committed team players.
Throughout the year, Orr Group takes on smart, energetic, detail-oriented interns to help with philanthropic research and support client projects. An interest in and desire to be part of the world of philanthropy are essential, as are adaptability and the ability to think on one’s feet. Prospective interns should send their resume and a cover letter explaining why they are interested in an internship position in nonprofit fundraising and development and what they have to offer Orr Group. To apply to our DC office, please send all materials to InternsDC@orrgroup.com. To apply to our NY office, please send all materials to InternsNYC@orrgroup.com.
