Situation

Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, located on eastern Long Island, NY, offers a diverse array of clinical services, ranging from primary medical care to specialized surgical procedures, including orthopedics and bariatrics. In addition to delivering world-class, compassionate care to its patients the hospital is also a vital part of the Long Island health community, sponsoring informative health-related programs and discussions in partnership with community organizations, advancing understanding of human health and disease, and educating healthcare professionals for the future.

In 2017, Southampton Hospital formally merged with Stony Brook University to become the Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. This new partnership has expanded access to university resources and provided the opportunity to reimagine and redefine healthcare on the East End of Long Island. Central to this vision is a capital campaign to raise $375 million to build a new state-of-the-art hospital on the campus of Stony Brook Southampton College and revamp and enhance the ancillary care sites throughout the East End of Long Island, including a new East Hampton Emergency department with an original $35 million goal.

Shortly after the merger, Southampton Hospital Foundation began working with Orr Group to plan for this campaign. Working with hospital leadership, Orr Group created a campaign plan, timeline, and case for support to underpin Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s bold vision for both the new hospital and the East Hampton Satellite Emergency Room.

Solution

Working with hospital staff and established campaign leadership, we held sphere-of-influence conversations with key stakeholders to identify potential new campaign committee members.  We also identified and researched new donor prospects based on the sphere-of-influence conversations, zip code research, and a scan of peer organizations. Building on that solid foundation, we turned our focus towards cultivating leadership prospects, developing campaign branding, and supporting the founding of two campaign committees. In conjunction with hospital leadership, Orr Group is supporting both campaign committees in their outreach and cultivation efforts.

Orr Group developed the strategy for the New Hospital’s naming opportunities and is crafting proposals for prospective leadership donors based on strategies and cultivation designed in partnership with foundation and hospital leadership.
