Situation

Arthritis and its related diseases afflict more than 50 million individuals in the United States, from newborns to the elderly. The Arthritis Foundation is dedicated to leading the fight for arthritis sufferers and their families, helping through access to information, resources, and community as well as promoting scientific advancements in treatment and leading towards a cure.

The Arthritis Foundation came to Orr Group seeking to build the infrastructure needed to successfully launch a $15 million major giving campaign to accelerate its program of scientific discovery and to improve the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis.

Solution

Orr Group first developed a case for support and then tested it to ensure that it was compelling and resonated with potential donors. Orr Group helped the Arthritis Foundation recruit, solicit and manage the campaign committee. We also trained and coached staff by providing fundraising tools and sharing best practices for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major and planned donors. To develop the campaign pipeline and gift table, we analyzed the Foundation’s donor database through a combination of wealth screening and other research tools. We then implemented a moves management system across the Foundation’s local offices to facilitate the tracking and management of prospects. Orr Group helped the Arthritis Foundation further prepare for the quiet phase of the campaign by identifying and preparing strategies and proposals for lead gifts.
