The Historical Society of Washington, D.C., (DC History) is an educational and research organization that collects, interprets and shares the history of our nation’s capital. The organization helps make local history readily available to the public to promote a sense of identity, place, and pride in Washington and to preserve this heritage for future generations.

In order to leverage the unique opportunity presented by the installation of Apple’s new flagship store in the same building as the new DC History Center, the organization embarked on the development of three new exhibits for which it needed to raise $300,000 to $500,000. In order to meet this urgent funding need in the short term and establish a platform to grow its philanthropic potential in the longer term, the organization retained Orr Group to provide immediate support to develop the disciplines, processes and materials needed to advance the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors and prospects.

In order to assist DC History, Orr Group analyzed current donors and conducted research to identify and prioritize new prospects for outreach by the Executive Director. In addition, Orr Group oversaw the moves management  for each priority prospect, and helped drive the cultivation strategy, outreach, meeting preparation and follow up.

Orr Group also coordinated DC History’s year-end appeal efforts and provided continued fundraising support through the opening of the DC History Center. Orr Group is working closely with DC History’s Executive Director, Board Chair and Board Members on the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of potential corporate, foundation and individual supporters.

Over the course of our engagement, Orr Group has helped DC History secure $358,920 in contributions and an additional $105,000 in potential foundation grants outstanding.
