30th Anniversary Cor(r)e Values Campaign: Teamwork & Accountability with Richard Sherriffe, Chief Operating Officer
For 30 years, Orr Group’s commitment to teamwork and accountability has allowed us to reach new levels of success as a firm and with our nonprofit partners.
“Teamwork basically means everything. Our ecosystem is such that every person makes an important contribution to our overall success… the adage, ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’, perfectly describes what it’s like to be part of a team here at Orr Group. Together, we make great things happen,” says Richard Sherriffe, Chief Operating Officer.
With 30 years of executive leadership, operations, strategy, business development and risk management experience, Rich knows the importance of building a strong, cohesive team and establishing a culture of accountability. Orr Group’s team-based approach allows us to bring a depth and variety of skills and perspectives to our work with our partners. We value our teammates, hold each other accountable for our responsibilities, and collaborate to ensure we deliver on our promises to our nonprofit clients.
What does teamwork mean to you?
“Teamwork basically means everything. Our ecosystem is such that every person at Orr Group makes an important contribution to our overall corporate success. With that understanding, teamwork to me means honest and transparent communication collaboration, always being solution-oriented, helping each other, and holding each other accountable.”
How does Orr Group’s collaborative culture contribute to our success?
“So we have diversity in culture, experience, and ideas. Everyone has a seat at the table in some shape, form, or fashion. Not only do we encourage this type of collaboration, we truly need that collaboration in spirit and form to be truly successful. The combination of our collaborative culture, lessons learned from 30 years of experiences, best practices and client partnerships results in the best solutions for our clients.”
How do you and your teammates hold each other accountable?
“Accountability is critical at Orr Group and one is expected to take responsibility for their actions; in other words, you have to own it. Provide, and as important, receive honest feedback. We’re not afraid to respectfully tell each other that was or was not genius. Be responsive, figure it out fast and be accurate, and when you’re wrong, show how you’ve learned from that mistake. We know that as a team, we’re all linked to each other and we are each other’s keeper.”
What do you enjoy most about being part of the Orr Group team?
“Hands down, it’s our people. True teamwork starts with the right team and we’re very fortunate to have amazing people working here at Orr Group. There’s a huge difference between a group of talented individuals and a team, a true team. The best teams in my opinion, have team spirit. They’re engaged, they’re invested in reaching a goal together, and they’re there to support each other. That’s exactly what we have here at Orr Group. The adage, “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”, perfectly describes what it’s like to be part of a team here at Orr Group. Together, we make great things happen.”
How do you envision Orr Group maintaining its values of teamwork, collaboration, and respect over the next 30 years?
“We pride ourselves on being innovative and at the forefront of incorporating best practices, new technology, and being a champion of disruptive concepts in our industry. However, I believe that our core values are absolutely timeless and will remain the foundation of our company; partnership, investing in our team, integrity, excellence, innovative approaches, honest communication, flexibility, adaptability, and of course, what we always have here, an entrepreneurial spirit; these are the values that will always set Orr Group apart. The best is yet to come.”
