Fundraising Day in New York 2019
Fundraising Day in New York 2019 (FRDNY 2019) marked the 40th year of the nation’s premier conference on philanthropy, which was attended by nearly 2,000 fundraisers and nonprofit leaders. More than 150 thought-leaders in the industry volunteered their time to bring best practices, ideas and insights, stimulating conversations, and networking opportunities to the event.
Orr Group proudly sponsored the event’s luncheon in addition to participating as moderators for various sessions throughout the day.
Orr Group Chief Operating Officer, CJ Orr, moderated the session “Keep Them Coming Back!” on why it’s as important to sell well as it is to be a true partner – and how to do it. Attendees from this session learned the following:
- What partners are looking for that isn’t in the agreement
- When to say yes and how to say no, and
- How to keep a sponsorship even after your contact has moved on.
Speakers included: Jorrie Bruffett, Vice President Food and Marketing, Pret A Manger; Kathy Holding, Director, Special Events, City Harvest; Lauren Willis, Manager, Tackle Kids Cancer and Annual Giving, Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation.
Additionally, Orr Group Managing Director, Craig Shelley, CFRE moderated a session called “The Pentagon of Campaign Leadership: The CEO, CDO, Board, Campaign Steering Committee and Staff.” This session defined and differentiated the role of each of these key campaign leaders, explored how these leaders collaborate, and shared their experiences and anecdotes leading campaigns of their own. Attendees left with a better understanding of how to:
- Build a team for internal and external goals
- Communicate and collaborate effectively, and
- Recognize and alleviate conflicts.
Speakers included: Sue Donoghue, President, Prospect Park Alliance; William Goodloe, President and Chief Executive Officer, SEO; and Bret Silver, Interim Chief Development Officer, YMCA of Greater New York.
These sessions were two of more than 45 educational sessions on a broad range of fundraising topics, all aimed at providing at least one new idea to bring value to both individual professionals and their organizations.
